An Adventurous Trip To Humla With Medical Supplies
According to the latest human development index report, Humla is among the most deprived districts in terms of health, education and sanitation due to which people’s miseries abound. It is just alarming that people die of easily treatable disease such as diarrhea and flu in this part of Nepal. There is a dearth of medical supplies and equipments that is wreaking havoc on the health of entire region. The government seems almost unresponsive and indifferent no matter how many news relating to this appear on the national newspaper every now and then.
Being moved by such miserable plight, Prakash, the founder of Nepal Health Trust and its program coordinator made an adventurous trip to Humla with a view to providing the mostly needed medical supplies and equipments. They may not have thought even in the dream that the weather would be so unpredictable and scary. As they flew over the tall mountains, the plane was tossed by the high winds and it almost turned like a kite. All the passengers gave a yell of fear and gave up the hope of surviving! Despite this harsh and turbulent weather, the plane, however, arrived safely to the Humla airport with 440 pounds of medicines to be carried by the mules to the destination. They never anticipated such a warm welcome by the locals out there, let alone to be awarded. After this rewarding experience, Nepal Health Trust has made a decision to provide the medical supplies periodically and also visit Humla at least a year. We ask all the interested parties and individuals to support this worthy cause and if possible, audacious enough to be a volunteer!
